AFFORDABLE PCGS/CAC MS66 1862 GOLD DOLLAR
As with its counterpart the 1861 gold dollar, the 1862 is sometimes seen in grades as high as MS66 but not often finer. It is popular, of course, due to its Civil War issuance.
I have seen or handled a number of very high grade business strike 1862 dollars and this piece has exceptional eye appeal with the obverse, in my opinion, approaching MS67 status; the reverse has a few shallow scuffs around LAR in DOLLAR. Both sides show great natural orange-gold color plus thick, unbroken mint frost.
Heritage 2017 ANA: 5458, graded PCGS MS66+ and approved by CAC, sold cheaply at $3,290 and, in my opinion, it was not as nice as the current example.
An affordable but uncommonly nice high grade 1862 gold dollar.
CAC has approved 18 in this grade with 8 finer.
