PCGS/CAC MS62+ 1899-O $10
As you can see, the owner of the Islay Collection liked this date a lot, and he owned three PCGS/CAC examples of the 1899-O eagle.
This piece has fewer marks than what is “normal” for an MS62 New Orleans eagle of this era but some scuffs above and to the left of the date are the reason it wasn’t graded MS63. The color and luster show that this coin is untampered while there are a few natural copper spots seen on both sides.
No CAC approved MS62+ 1899-O eagle has ever sold at auction. There is one record for a non-CAC PCGS MS62+ which is Heritage 1/2017: 6945 which realized $3,055.
This date becomes expensive and difficult to locate in MS63 and finer.
CAC has approved 16 in this grade (including at least this coin in MS62+) with 14 finer.
