SCARCE PCGS/CAC MS63 1899-O EAGLE
This is the finest of no fewer than three (!) PCGS/CAC examples of this popular date in the Islay Collection. The 1899-O is scarce in properly graded MS63 and it is rare (and very expensive) finer than this.
The defining characteristic of this coin is its glowing lemon-yellow color which covers the obverse and the reverse. Both sides are very clean with just a few light scuffs in the obverse fields.
There are four APRs for the 1899-O $10 in PCS/CAC MS63. The most recent was Heritage 2/2021: 3783 which went cheaply at $7,800. In February 2020, Heritage sold an example for $11,400 which is a record for this date in this grade.
With MS64 and finer 1899-O eagles being all-but-impossible to locate, this coin takes on added significance to the late date New Orleans eagle collector seeking high quality coins for his set.
CAC has approved 10 in this grade with just four finer.
