PCGS/CAC MS63+ 1903-O $10
This is the single most available New Orleans eagle. It is easily located in grades through MS63. It becomes challenging to locate in MS64, while Gems are exceedingly rare. The current PCGS population for this date includes 26 coins in MS64, and one each in MS65+ and MS66.
This frosty example is kept from an MS64 grade due to a few scuffs in the left obverse field. It is sharply defined with pleasing natural golden-orange color and unlike so many higher grade New Orleans eagles of this era, it has never been brightened.
No CAC approved PCGS MS63+ has sold at auction. The last three PCGS/CAC MS63’s, sold between March 2019 and December 2020, have all realized $2,160.
For a touch less than $3,000 this seems like great value to me.
CAC has approved 34 in this grade (including an unknown number in 63+) with seven finer.
