RARE CAC APPROVED PCGS MS64 1906-O EAGLE

The 1906-O is the final year of issue for any gold coin from New Orleans. It is readily available through MS62 and only marginally scarce in MS63, but it is rare in MS64 and very rare in Gem.

This coin is fresh to the market and was recently sourced in Germany but it is not a typical Euro example as it lacks deep, crusty color. In fact, this remarkable coin is "as made" with natural bright yellow-gold hues and swirling frosty luster. I could see this piece in a 64+ holder as it is very clean with no hairlines or spotting and moderate handling marks limited to the obverse fields.

No CAC-approved MS64 1906-O eagle has appeared at auction and the most current APR is $7,800 in November 2018 for a non-CAC piece. Before this sale, two PCGS MS64 examples realized $9,500 and $9,400, respectively, in March 2018 and February 2017. A slightly finer CAC approved NGC MS65 brought $21,150 back in October 2014.

If one were even available, a nice PCGS MS65 1906-O would cost well over twice the asking price of this nice MS64 and for most advanced collectors the higher graded piece would represent an overbuy. An important With Motto New Orleans eagle.

CAC has approved eight in MS64 with just three finer.
