GEM PCGS/CAC MS65 1888 THREE DOLLAR

A total of 5,000 business strike 1888 Threes were made, and this date is common up through MS65. Gem CAC approved examples are not easily found, and are in demand as type coins.

I bought this coin thinking that it would upgrade to MS66+ if resubmitted, and due to my brutal travel schedule in February, I never got around to it and I invite the buyer to try his luck at PCGS. The color is a lovely rose-gold with orange-gold undertones. The luster rolls over clean, unmolested surfaces.

No PCGS/CAC pieces have sold in a number of years. Stack’s Bowers sold a PCGS/CAC MS65+ for $19,200 as Lot 4261 4/2024 auction.

CAC has approved 14 in this grade with 16 finer.
