CONDITION RARITY PCGS MS63 1892-O EAGLE
While common in grades through MS62, the 1892-O eagle is rare in MS63, and unique higher than this (there is a single coin graded MS64 by PCGS). It is interesting to note that with all the high quality New Orleans eagles which have been found in overseas hoards in the last decade, the number of MS63 coins remains very low; likely not more than five or six pieces.
This crisp, frosty example shows nice natural orange-gold color and it is far less abraded than normal for the issue. I would suggest that the new owner send this coin to CAC, as it seems to me to represent above-average quality for the grade.
Including this coin (see below) there are three APRs for the 1892-O eagle in PCGS MS63 since late 2012, with a low of $7,344 and a high of $7,931. No PCGS MS63 1892-O eagles have sold at auction since August 2017 (this coin; see below) and this is the only piece I’ve offered in this grade in close to a decade.
An important coin for the specialist.
Ex Heritage 2017 ANA: 5767 where it realized $7,638.
