PCGS/CAC MS63 1890-CC HALF EAGLE

The 1890-CC is considerably scarcer than the 1891-CC in this grade yet it commands a smaller premium than one might assume. Properly graded MS63 to MS63+ is about the nicest one will find for the 1890-CC and if available, a properly graded PCGS MS64 would command $12,500-15,000.

This piece is uncommonly clean for the issue and it lacks the overt abrasions seen on most 1890-CC half eagles. The surfaces are very frosty and show pleasing apricot-gold hues which are richest at the obverse edge.

No CAC approved PCGS MS63 1890-CC half eagle has been sold at auction in recent years. A PCGS MS63+ with CAC approval sold for $9,400 as Heritage 10/15: 3529. The most recent APR for a PCGS MS63 is Heritage 4/17: 15948 at $7,050.

This would make an excellent type coin for the collector seeking a single high quality half eagle from the Carson City mint.

CAC has approved 13 with 6 finer.
