Along with the 1876-CC, this date is one of the few Carson City half eagles which I think are underpriced. There are an estimated 125 or so known with most showing poor overall eye appeal.
This is an uncommonly nice example for the grade with deep green-gold color and some orange-gold and reddish highlights in the recesses.
No PCGS EF40 1877-CC half eagle has sold at auction since November 2003. A CAC approved NGC EF40 realized $4,113 as Heritage 4/14: 6477.
Nice quality for this date at an affordable price point.
CAC has approved four in this grade with 12 finer.
