RARE 1870-CC $5 IN PCGS VF25

The 1870-CC is the rarest Carson City half eagle in terms of total number known. It is a popular first-year-of-issue which is available in lower grades due to extensive usage in the Old West.

This piece is well-detailed for the grade with some actual mint luster seen in the recesses. It is evenly worn with a good degree of the feathers plainly visible and there are splashes of orange-gold color on both sides.

No PCGS VF25 has sold at auction since early 2011 while an NGC graded example last sold in May 2013 for $14,100. In February 2016, a PCGS VF30 sold for $21,150.

This date is in huge demand amongst a variety of collectors and this is among the more affordable straight-graded PCGS 1870-CC half eagles which should be available anytime soon.
