HIGH GRADE 1871-CC HALF EAGLE
The 1871-CC is scarcer than the 1874-CC but it is more available than the other early date half eagles from this mint. It is very scarce in properly graded AU55 to AU58 and it is extremely rare in Uncirculated with just three known to me.
This fresh-to-the-market example is well above-average for the date and grade with ample mint luster seen on both sides. The color is a pleasing natural light honey-gold and the surfaces lack any deep or detracting abrasions as is typical for 1871-CC half eagles.
The most recent APR for a PCGS AU55 1871-CC half eagle is Heritage 12/17: 3252 (approved by CAC) which sold for $20,400. No other PCGS AU55's have sold since June 2011. A low-end NGC AU55 brought $15,275 as Heritage 1/17: 5916 while a much nicer NGC/CAC AU55 realized $17,625 as Heritage 12/14: 3783.
This is the finest 1871-CC half eagle that I have handled in the last few years.
