VERY CHOICE PCGS/CAC MS63+ 1893-CC HALF EAGLE
With the mint closing in 1893, this represents the final year of issue Carson City half eagle. The 1893-CC is available in MS63, but it becomes rare in MS64 and Gems are non-existent.
I have seen other 1893-CC half eagles graded MS63+, and some just do not cut the mustard as a “+” coin. The example offered here is clearly a plus, and the dealer I bought it from told me that he had tried it a number of times to MS64. The coin has a shimmering glow that is not often seen on any Carson City half eagles, certainly not an issue like the 1893-CC half eagle which is often riddled with bagmarks.
There are four APRs for PCGS/CAC 1893-CC half eagles in MS63+ since 2021, with a low of $12,600 (3/2021) and a high of $22,800 (4/2022).
Here is the perfect high-grade but affordable CC half eagle.
