CHOICE NGC/CAC EF45 1872-CC HALF EAGLE

The 1872-CC is a scarcer early date Carson City half eagle which is sometimes seen in the EF grades but far less frequently with choice surfaces and natural color.

This is a very solid coin for the grade with natural orange-gold centers accentuated by deeper reddish flecks at the borders. The strike is excellent and the surfaces are clean with no significant marks.

A PCGS/CAC EF45 1872-CC half eagle sold for $11,163 as Stacks Bowers 5/12: 4292. Only four EF45's from both services combined have sold at auction since April 2010.

This is an uncommonly pleasing example which represents the best quality for this date at less than $10,000.

CAC has approved four in this grade with eight finer.

Ex Heritage 9/16: 14094 where it realized $7,638 without CAC approval.
