CAC APPROVED NGC AU55 1880-CC HALF EAGLE
While second in overall availability only to the 1882-CC among CC half eagles from this decade, the 1880-CC is not often seen in the higher AU grades and it is rare in Uncirculated.
This modestly-worn example is quiet lustrous and well detailed with light rose and yellow-gold color. The surfaces show a few small ticks--mostly in the obverse fields--but are acceptable for the grade.
A CAC approved 1880-CC half eagle graded AU55 by PCGS sold for $4,465 as Stacks Bowers 3/17: 2434.
For most collectors of this series, a nice AU55 represents the best value grade for this date.
CAC has approved eight in this grade with six finer.
