1836 $5 IN PCGS/CAC MS64 FROM THE S/B PULASKI WHICH SANK ON JUNE 14,1838 OFF THE COAST OF SAVANNAH

I was able to purchase two nice 1836 half eagles from this source at a recent show—an MS63+ and this high-end MS64. As a date, the 1836 is rare in MS64 and very rare finer. I doubt if more than three or four Gems exist.

The appearance of this coin is exceptional with pillowy luster on both sides as well as subtle attractive orange-gold. I showed this coin to a few select dealers at the CSNS, show and it was unanimously agreed that the small number of Classic Head gold from this source was the nicest quality we had ever seen on a US shipwreck issue.

I paid $50,400 for a PCGS/CAC MS64 as Stack’s Bowers 9/2025: 3196, and this coin is the only coin sold at auction for a number of years that compares favorably for this issue.

Whether you are a shipwreck specialist or an advanced type collector, I cant think of a better example at this price point.

CAC has approved 10 in MS64 from this source with just two finer.
