AFFORDABLE CAC APPROVED PCGS AU50 1852-D HALF EAGLE

While no Dahlonega half eagle is truly “common” in AU50 and higher grades, the 1852-D is among the more available issues of this type.

This piece is softly struck but has more luster than one typically associates with the grade. When the coin is tilted downwards, there are some faint spots on the upper left obverse which are detracting but which could likely be removed.

There is but a single auction record for a PCGS/CAC AU50 example of this date and it is this exact coin; see below for more information.

If you have around $3,000 to spend on a CAC approved half eagle from Dahlonega, you’ll have very few pieces available which grade as high as this AU50.

CAC has approved two in this grade with 28 finer.

Ex Legend 7/2018: 155 where it brought $2,860.
