POPULAR 1839-D QUARTER EAGLE GRADED AU55 BY PCGS

Variety 1-B.

The 1839-D is among the most popular quarter eagles from Dahlonega as it is a first-year-of-issue for the denomination and a one-year type for the design. Nice AU examples are offered around once per year and the demand for this coin has increased significantly over the past decade.

This bright green-gold example shows good overall detail and there is some luster remaining on both sides. There is a small shiny area in front of the first star and the surfaces show scattered marks.

Since 1999, there have been just five 1839-D quarter eagles graded AU55 by PCGS to sell at auction, including a coin that sold for $8,100 in the 9/2019 Goldberg auction which was of very similar quality.
