GEM SLIDER 1850-D GOLD DOLLAR WITH CAC APPROVAL

Variety 2-C.

The 1850-D is the second scarcest Type One gold dollar from this mint after the 1854-D. It is very scarce in the higher AU grades, especially with natural color and choice surfaces. In Uncirculated, there are likely fewer than 10 known which are accurately graded by my standards.

This is an exceptional coin for the date and grade with uncommonly sharp details and unusually choice surfaces. There is just a tiny amount of wear seen on the obverse high spots, but I would compare this piece favorably with any 1850-D gold dollar graded MS61. The color, a rich natural lemon-gold, is particularly pleasing.

The only APR for an 1850-D gold dollar in PCGS/CAC AU58 is this exact coin; see below for more information.

This is quite possibly the nicest AU58 example of this scarce date that I have seen and it would fit into a high-quality set of Dahlonega gold dollars.

CAC has approved three in this grade with two finer.

Ex Heritage 7/2019: 3136, where it sold for $6,632.
