SCARCE 1841-D $250 GRADED AU53 BY PCGS

Variety 2-D, a very scarce variety.

The first three Liberty Head quarter eagles from Dahlonega are all scarce and the 1841-D is the most obtainable of this trio. However, it is an issue which is often offered for sale in About Uncirculated and it is very rare in Uncirculated.

This green-gold example has some flashes of reddish-gold which can be seen at the borders. There is some luster present but the strike is weak at the centers and this gives the unfair impression of more wear than there actually is.

Just two PCGS AU53 examples of this date have ever sold at auction: one all the way back in 2003 for $9,890 and another in September 2019 for $6,300.

A hard issue to locate and a date missing from many specialized collections.
