CAC APPROVED 1858-D GOLD DOLLAR GRADED QAU53 BY PCGS

Variety 10-M.

The 1858-D is, along with the 1859-D, the easiest Type Three gold dollar from Dahlonega to locate. Examples are fairly plentiful in the lower-to-mid AU range but most of the coins seen on the market are very low-end. Choice pieces are very scarce, as evidenced by the very low success rate of said coins when sent to CAC.

This coin could easily have graded AU55 and it is nicely struck for the issue with a full date. The color is a pleasing medium green-gold overlaid with bright orange pastels and the surfaces are choice save for a few light old vertical scratches in the right obverse field.

No 1858-D gold dollar graded AU53 has sold at auction since 2002, and the most recent APR for a non-CAC PCGS AU55 is $3,840 set by Heritage 9/2020: 3265.

A perfect Type Three type coin for the collector with around $4,000 available.

CAC has approved two in this grade with four finer.
