RARE PCGS PR58 1859 THREE DOLLARS

While the reported mintage of Proof 1859 Threes is 80 coins, it is likely that a majority were melted and only a dozen or so exist today.

This coin is clearly circulated but it is clearly a Proof. The surfaces are reflective but somewhat scuffy with the obverse showing rich reddish-gold color; this is also present on the reverse, but the color is not as deep or as extensive. No PR58 1859 $3 has ever sold, and the lowest grade APR I can find is for an NGC PR61 that sold for $8,625 as Heritage 11/2003: 7435.

This date is essentially unavailable in grades lower than PR64 and even in that grade, you can expect to pay around $80,000.
