IMPORTANT CONDITION CENSUS PCGS MS63 1856-S THREE DOLLAR
Small Mintmark variety.
Not including the unique 1870-S, the San Francisco three dollar gold subset is just four issues: 1855-S, 1856-S, 1857-S, and 1860-S.
Every single one of these is rare in MS60 to MS62 and all are very rare in MS63 and finer. Here are the current PCGS numbers:

In summary, PCGS has graded seven SF Threes in MS63 with nine finer. The sole Gem is the amazing 1857-S in MS67 which is owned by Dwight Manley.
Around 15 or so 1856-S Threes exist in Uncirculated with as many as three-quarters of these in the MS60 to MS62 range. Properlry graded MS63s are very rare, and both of the PCGS MS64 coins that are imaged on PCGS Coinfacts appears to be especially nice.
This is a really choice coin. It has buttery yellow-gold color with some crisp peripheral lime-gold hues. There is a large fiery red copper spot—as made—which you will either find unobtrusive or you will hate it.
An amazing and very significant coin.
