RARE GEM PCGS MS65 1906-0 $10.00

The 1906-O is a conditionally scarce issue that becomes genuinely rare in Gem as evidenced by its population in top grades: just four in PCGS MS65, two in MS65+, and a single coin finer (whcih was last sold at auction in late 2000). Three of these are put away in long-term collections (400 Esplanade, New England, and Tyrant) leaving this and maybe one or two others Gems as targets for the collector who needs a high grade With Motto New Orleans eagle or—more specifically a Gem PCGS MS65 1906-O.

This fresh-to-the-market Gem has blazing frosty luster atop natural medium orange-gold surfaces. The strike is as sharp as you’ll find on this design type while a few small scuffs in the upper right obverse field are almost certainly the reason for CAC not approving this above-average example.

No PCGS MS65 1906-O eagle has ever sold at auction. In 11/2023, Heritage sold a nice PCGS/CAC MS65+ for $31,200; the same coin had brought exactly the same price when first sold in 2/2020.

The last year of issue for this long-lived type and a really neat, really fresh coin.
