CONDITION CENSUS PCGS/CAC MS63+ 1850-O $1

Variety 1.

The 1850-O is by far the scarcest gold dollar from this mint both in terms of overall and high grade rarity. There are 20-25 known in Uncirculated and this date is rare in properly graded MS63 and very rare finer.

This is the nicest MS63/63+ I’ve seen of this date with an excellent strike, choice surfaces and natural medium golden-orange color.

Only three PCGS MS63s have sold at auction since 2013 and they realized $5,141 (3/14), $4,700 (10/14), and $4,935 (4/17). No CAC MS63 has ever sold at auction. Obviously, no MS63+ has sold either.

The only better 1850-O I have sold in years was the PCGS MS64 from the Cajun Collection.

CAC has approved two in this grade with none finer.
