PROOFLIKE PCGS AU53 1882-O EAGLE

The 1882-O is seen more regularly than its counterparts the 1880-O and the 1881-O but it remains the fifth scarcest of 16 With Motto eagles struck in New Orleans.
This coin is fully prooflike and it is close to DMPL. It shows natural reddish-gold hues at the obverse border and it would grade at least AU55 were it not as abraded as it is. This is, of course, frequently seen on this issue.
No PCGS AU53 1882-O eagle has sold at auction since April 2010 and only five have since 2001. The last two NGC examples both realized $2,233; one was sold in 4/17 while the other was sold in 4/15.
An interesting coin which should be seen in person to be most appreciated.
