NICE AU 1858-O EAGLE: OFF THE MARKET SINCE 1994
Only 20,000 1858-O eagles were made but this date is more available in the AU50 to AU55 range than one might expect. However, most of the coins in this range are very low end and any 1858-O with natural color is extremely scarce.
This undipped example shows attractive natural medium orange-gold color over lightly marked surfaces. As seen on all known 1858-O eagles, the obverse strike is somewhat flat with weakness on the radials in the stars and on the curl above Liberty's ear.
No PCGS AU53 has sold at auction since August 2004. A non-CAC PCGS AU55 sold for $2,899 as Heritage 4/15: 6286.
This coin is decidedly nicer than many of the 1858-O eagles I have seen in AU55 holders.
