Two varieties of 1854-O eagle are known and the Small Date is the scarcer of the two. It is not hard to locate in collector grades but most seen in the EF and lower AU range are not choice.
This is a textbook example for the grade with nice surfaces and pleasing rich original color. With a touch more luster this piece would have graded at least AU50.
No CAC approved EF45 has appeared at auction.
CAC has approved just 3 in this grade with 14 higher.
