VERY SCARCE PCGS/CAC AU58 1893-CC EAGLE

Variety 1-A.

This is a numismatically significant issue as it is the last eagle to be produced at the Carson City mint. The 1893-CC is significant rarer than the other three CC eagles from this decade and only 14,000 were made. It is usually seen in the EF and lower AU grades; properly graded AU58's are very scarce and this date is genuinely rare in Uncirculated.

This very lustrous slider example is nicely toned with natural medium lemon-gold centers framed by subtle purplish-red hues at the obverse border. The surfaces are so clean and free of the usual abrasions that it is plausible this coin never saw actual circulation.

The last PCGS AU58 1893-CC eagle to sell at auction brought $8,225 as Heritage 6/16: 4822 and it was not approved by CAC. An NGC AU58 with CAC approval brought a strong $9,106 as Heritage 7/16:4024.

If available, an Uncirculated 1893-CC eagle graded by PCGS would certainly cost in excess of $15,000-17,500. This PCGS AU58 with CAC approval seems like a great buy at around half this amount.

CAC has approved 6 in this grade with 3 finer.
