This is the scarcest late date (post 1883) eagle from New Orleans. It is scarce in properly graded MS62, rare in MS63 and very rare finer than this.
This is a choice, original piece with good luster seen beneath natural orange-gold and pale green color. A small mark in the left obverse field merits mention but is not detracting.
No CAC approved MS62 1899-O eagle from either service has sold at auction in recent years. I typically sell non-CAC PCGS MS62 examples of this date in the $2,250-2,500 range.
CAC has approved 8 in this grade with 11 finer.
