This low mintage date (20,000 were struck) is not often seen in the higher AU grades and even less often with natural color and choice surfaces.
This deep green-gold example appears to have never been brightened and it has especially clean surfaces for the issue. As is common, some of the stars have flat radial lines but the overall strike is above-average and the eye appeal is excellent.
No CAC approved 1858-O eagles in AU55 have recently sold at auction. The last NGC AU55 to cross the block hit the $3,055 mark as Heritage 7/16: 4520.
An affordable yet clearly superior example of this popular issue.
CAC has approved 6 in this grade with 6 finer.
