GEM PCGS/CAC MS66 1877-CC DIME

Type Two Reverse.

The 1877-CC is the second most common dime from Carson City after the 1876-CC. It is sometimes available in MS65 to MS66, but it is rare in MS67 and just two have been approved by CAC in grades higher than MS66.

This is a totally original Gem with deep grey toning which has underlying blue and gold pastels. The strike is very sharp and there are no detracting marks on either side.

Auction prices realized for this issue in PCGS/CAC MS66 make an interesting case study. There are five records since April 2012, and four of them fall into the $4,700-5,875 range. But in November 2019, Stack’s Bowers sold a decent example for a low $2,040. The number of PCGS/CAC MS66 1877-CC dimes has increased since 2012, but is this coin really only worth half of its previous levels?

CAC has approved 23 in this grade with two finer.
