GEM CAC APPROVED 1877-CC HALF DOLLAR IN AN OLD GREEN LABEL HOLDER

Any Carson City half dollar is scarce in real MS65, and I strongly believe that the current PCGS population of 20 1877-CC halves graded MS65 (with another dozen in grades higher) is skewed by resubmissions. Also, a number of the coins grade MS65 by both services are clearly not nice enough to receive a CAC sticker.

Housed in an old green label holder, this piece is very choice for the assigned grade. It is mostly untoned with some reddish-gold and greenish pastels at the obverse border; the reverse has some lighter hues at the border as well. The luster and strike are excellent and I note just a few tiny surface abrasions in the obverse fields.

There is just a single APR for a CAC approved PCGS MS65 1877-CC half dollar, and that coin brought $6,300 as Heritage 11/2020: 3588. In October 2017, Legend sold a superbly toned PCGS/CAC MS65+ for $10,575.

Advanced collectors of Carson City half dollars will no doubt appreciate the quality and freshness of this attractive coin.

CAC has approved seven in this grade with just two finer.
