A SECOND GEM 1875-CC MM BELOW WREATH DIME, PCGS/CAC MS65

Of the two varieties of 1875-CC Dimes, the mintmark below wreath is decidedly scarcer, especially in Gem. The current PCGS population of 15 in MS65 seems severely inflated by resubmissions, while only two finer (both MS66) have been graded by this firm.

This frosty Gem shows untoned centers framed by dappled apricot-gold splashes at the borders with the most extensive color at the upper left obverse and the lower reverse. A strong case could be made for grading this coin MS65+ as it has especially clean surfaces and a great overall look.

There have been three auction sales for this variety in PCGS/CAC MS65 since 2009 with the most recent of these being for $4,994 as Heritage 9/2013: 6313. This coin is not one of the three from auction and it is more attractive than all but one; the aforementioned coin sold in 2013.

This coin is exceptional for the date and grade and it is nice enough to be included in a high quality specialized set of Seated Dimes.

CAC has approved seven in this grade with none finer.
