GEM SLIDER 1855-O GOLD DOLLAR

The 1855-O is numismatically significant due to its status as the only Type Two gold dollar from New Orleans. It is more available than its Southern counterparts the 1855-C and 1855-D and it is available in all circulated grades. Properly graded AU58 pieces with original skin and choice surfaces are popular due to their relative affordability.

This satiny slider is well struck and very clean with attractive natural light yellow-gold color on both sides. This coin has superior eye appeal for the grade and I have seen numerous inferior 1855-O gold dollars housed in MS61 holders.

The last three APR’s for PCGS AU58 1855-O gold dollars are all $3,995 but each was for non-CAC pieces. No CAC approved AU58 appears to have sold since Heritage 6/13: 4695, an NGC coin which brought a strong $5,875.

For many type collectors and gold dollar specialists, a nice PCGS/CAC AU58 represents the perfect blend of quality and price point for this desirable issue.

CAC has approved 24 in this grade with 9 finer.
