CAC APPROVED PCGS AU58 1845-O HALF EAGLE

The 1845-O is comparable in overall scarcity to the 1846-O and 1851-O half eagles. Of the 150-175 known in total, around three to four dozen grade About Uncirculated with most in the lower range. Properly graded AU58’s are rare and very infrequently excelled.

This is an accurately graded “real 58” which shows slight overall wear but which is very lustrous and appealing. The surfaces show light ticks and have pleasing natural medium yellow-gold color. The strike is excellent with just a touch of weakness seen at the upper obverse center.

Remarkably, no PCGS AU58 1845-O half eagles have sold at auction since May 1995. The most recent APR for an NGC AU58 with CAC approval is $6,463 set by Heritage 12/13: 3845.

A CAC approved PCGS MS61 example of this date would cost close to double the asking price of this nice PCGS/CAC AU58 and for most collectors this latter price point makes more sense.

CAC has approved seven in this grade with four finer.
