PCGS AU58 1883-CC HALF EAGLE
The 1883-CC is similar in overall and high grade rarity to the 1884-CC half eagle. This issue is not often seen in grades higher than AU55 to AU58 and it is extremely rare in Uncirculated with just three or four pieces known.
This bright yellow-gold example has the naked-eye appearance of a Mint State coin but there is friction seen on the cheek and some breaks in the obverse field's luster. The strike is very sharp and this is a solid coin, overall, for the grade.
There are six APR's for this date in PCGS AU58 since 2008 ranging from a low of $8,340 (4/12) to a high of $9,988 (twice in 2014; both times for a CAC approved coin).
If one were available, an Uncirculated 1883-CC half eagle would cost at least $20,000 making a nice AU58 such as the present coin, a practical option for most collectors.
