IMPORTANT PCGS/CAC MS63+ 1893-CC HALF EAGLE, ex Fairmont

This final-year-of-issue Carson City half eagle is scarce in MS63, very rare in MS64, and still remains unknown in PCGS MS65.

I have handled three of the five 1893-CC half eagles graded thus far by PCGS, and this one is my personal favorite. It is intensely frosty with crisp golden hues covering both the obverse and reverse. A few shallow scufffs in the upper left obverse very narrowly takes this coin out of the running for a 64 grade but it is ohsoclose to qualifying as such.

A small mint-made copper spot above the 93 in the date serves as immediate identification.

Here is the perfect high-grade CC half eagle for the collector searching for one great half eagle from this mint.

CAC has approved 15 in MS63 (including three in MS63+) with only three finer.
