RARE CAC APPROVED NGC AU58 1852-D QUARTER EAGLE
Only 4,078 quarter eagles dated 1852-D were issued and this is a scarce date which is unfairly overshadowed by the 1854-D through 1856-D emissions. The 1852-D is rare in the higher AU grades ad it is all but unobtainable in Uncirculated.
This very attractive medium orange-gold example shows no real wear, just some light friction on the cheek of Liberty from storage. The strike is far above-average for the date with good detail noted at the centers. Both sides have some slight roughness in the planchet which is mint-made and there are tow minor handling marks near Liberty's eye. The quality is outstanding for the date and grade.
Since late 2008, only two AU58 1852-D quarter eagles have sold at auction and neither was CAC approved. The most recent APR was in April 2017 when an NGC piece realized $7,638.
An important coin.
CAC has approved just this coin in AU58 with one finer (MS62).
