A PCGS GRADED 1836 QUARTER EAGLE IN MS63

Block 8 variety; designated by PCGS.

Varieties of this date are known with a Script 8 and a Block 8 with the latter decidedly scarcer. As a date, the 1836 quarter eagle in available in the lowest Uncirculated range but it is very scarce in properly graded MS63, very rare in MS64 and exceedingly rare in Gem.

The obverse of this coin is extremely choice with lovely natural green-gold and orange color over clean, frosty fields. The reverse shows some scuffs in the fields and it is not as choice. Were the reverse as nice as the obverse, this would be a $12,500+ coin.

In 2016, two non-CAC PCGS MS63 1836 Block 8 quarter eagles sold at auction for $6,463. In December 2017, a choice CAC approved PCGS sold for a strong $12,925.

This represents just about the best available quality for this date and variety.
