A NICE PCGS/CAC EF40 1844-D QUARTER EAGLE IN AN OLD HOLDER

Housed in an old green holder and accurately graded by today's standards.

Variety 5-I.

The 1844-D is one of the more available quarter eagles from this mint, making it a good selection for the type collector. Many 1844-D quarter eagles are seen with very flat central details from die failure.

This softly struck piece is actually close to an AU50 in terms of surface preservation but it has been correctly net graded to EF40 as a result of its soft central strike. It shows nice green-gold color with very clean surfaces and some dirt in the recesses on the reverse.

Two non-CAC 1844-D quarter eagles graded EF40 were sold at auction in 2017 and they realized $1,920 and $1,989, respectively.

It is hard to find affordable D mint quarter eagles at this price point.

CAC has approved this one coin in EF40 with 27 finer.

Ex Heritage 6/13: 6882 where it sold for $1,998 without a CAC sticker.

PLEASE ADD $25 FOR SHIPPING ON ALL COINS PRICED AT $2,500 AND LOWER.
