NGC MS63 1853-C GOLD DOLLAR

This is a numismatically significant issue as the final Type One dollar from Charlotte. It is similar in overall rarity to the 1852-C but it is harder to locate in higher grades. It is scarce in properly graded MS63 and very rare finer than this. I am aware of a single Gem, an NGC MS65 I sold over two decades ago.

This frosty example is essentially "as made" with great natural deep yellow gold color. The obverse fields are rough (as made) with grainy texture surrounding the portrait; the reverse is much better made and is of Gem quality with full lettering and a sharp date.

Three APR's are noted for MS63 1853-C gold dollars since 2010 and the most recent is for a PCGS/CAC piece which brought $12,337 as Legend 2/15: 297.

A great coin for the advanced gold dollar collector.
