LOVELY GEM HIGH RELIEF WITH CAC APPROVAL
Wire Rim variety; housed in an older NGC "fatty" holder and choice for the grade by today's standards.
Given the price point of this iconic issue, new collectors are always confused by the relative availability of Gem High Reliefs. As CAC has shown, probably no more than one of every five graded MS65 are legitimate Gems and these now trade for premiums appropriate to their scarcity.
This full-blown Gem is among the more obviously "unmessed-with" High Reliefs I can recall having seen. Bot the obverse and the reverse are ultra frosty with glowing rich natural golden-orange hues. There is no rub on the high spots or shiny areas and were it not for a few small marks in the lower right obverse field, I could easily see this coin grading MS65+ or even MS66.
CAC sight unseen bid for this issue in MS65/CAC is $48,500 and the last auction trade I am aware of for this variety in MS65/CAC is $49,938 recorded by Stacks Bowers 2015 ANA: 10285.
If you have been looking for a truly special High Relief which checks every possible box, here is your coin!
CAC has approved 43 in this grade with 24 finer.
