The 1920 is a famous date among St. Gaudens collectors. It is available in grades up through MS64+ but Gems are exceedingly rare with just two graded MS65 by PCGS. One of these--recently graded by PCGS--just brought a staggering $188,000 at auction.
This "just miss Gem" is very clean and frosty with great color and luster. It is a bit "rubby" at the central obverse and thus narrowly misses out on being a classic condition rarity.
APR's for this date in PCGS MS64+ show great variation, ranging from a low of $4,935 to a high of $23,500.
In my opinion, a nice MS64+ such as thus coin represents the best value level for this peculiar date.
Ex Heritage 2013 ANA: 5320 where it brought $9,400.
