Variety 15-H. Normal mintmark.
While not as visually impressive as the D/D variety, normal mintmark 1846-D half eagles are scarcer than their counterparts. They are, in fact, legitimately rare in the higher AU grades and this issue is extremely rare in Uncirculated with just three to five known.
This medium orange-gold example is sharply struck with virtually full details seen at the centers. Both sides show some scattered marks which is very common for this issue; the only one worthy of mention is a very small dig in front of Liberty’s lips.
Since the Spring of 2006, there is just a single auction record for this date in PCGS AU58 and it was a coin that sold for $5,760 as Heritage 10/2019: 3252.
This issue is almost never seen in grades finer than AU55 and it is doubtful that another piece finer than the example in the Indian Rocks Beach Collection will come available in the near future.
