While certainly not as common as the 1843-1848 quarter eagles from this mint, the 1849-D is more available—overall—than the issues from the 1850’s. The 1849-D becomes scarce in higher circulated grades and it is very rare and underappreciated in Uncirculated.
This well-defined example was struck from slightly misaligned dies yet it is very sharp at the centers. The surfaces show just a few light ticks and there are some splashes of deep yellow-gold color which are most evident at the right obverse and around the reverse periphery.

This date is really challenging to find in grades higher than this and for most collectors, this nice AU55 will surely do the job!
CAC has approved six in this grade with six finer.
