SUPERB GEM CAC APPROVED 1923-D DOUBLE EAGLE

Housed in an old green label holder; in my opinion this is a solid MS66+ by today's standards.

The 1923-D is a date that is famous for "coming nice." There are some high end examples of this date which are exceptional as a result of intense color and fiery luster.

This is a sensational Gem with dramatic natural orange-gold color in different configurations on the obverse and the reverse. There are a few tiny marks on Liberty's left knee and a more noticeable reverse abrasion on the feathers which narrowly remove this coin from consideration at the MS67 level.

Two CAC approved PCGS MS66+ 1923-D Saints sold at auction in 2017 for $4,818 (in June) and $5,170 (in April).

If you having been searching for a saint with all the "bells and whistles" this could well be the coin for you.

CAC has approved 260 in this grade with 13 finer.
