HIGH END CAC APPROVED PCGS AU58 1854-O LARGE DATE EAGLE
Large Date variety; designated by PCGS.
Varieties of this date exist with a Small Date and a Large Date; the former is scarcer. The 1854-O Large Date is rare in properly graded AU58 and extremely rare in Uncirculated with just four to six known.
This natural yellow-gold example is frosty and original with less scuffiness seen in the fields than normal. As always, the strike is slightly soft at the centers but this piece shows above-average overall detail. This is among the nicest 1854-O Large Date eagles I have offered in the last few years.
The last PCGS AU58 1854-O Large Date eagle to sell at auction brought $5,060 all the way back in May 2005. No CAC approved example from either service has ever sold at auction.
This is an important eagle for the New Orleans gold specialist.
CAC has approved five in this grade with two finer.
