LOVELY CAC APPROVED NGC AU58 1853-O EAGLE
The rarity profile of the 1853-O differs from other New Orleans eagles of this era. The 1853-O is very common up through AU55 but it suddenly becomes rare in properly graded AU58 and it is extremely rare in Uncirculated with no more than three or four known.
This is among the best 1853-O eagles I have offered. It is a virgin original coin with attractive natural medium golden shadings over very lightly abraded surfaces. The strike is very sharp and what little wear which is present is limited to some bag friction in the left obverse field.
A vastly inferior non-CAC NGC AU58 eagle sold for $7,800 as Heritage 9/17: 4914 while a CAC approved PCGS AU58 brought $11,163 as Stacks Bowers 2016 ANA: 3320.
This date has finally been appreciated for being a real condition rarity and the Essex specimen offered here is pretty much the best available 1853-O eagle on the market.
CAC has approved nine with none finer.
