RARE NGC AU55 1852-O $10.00
The 1852-O is a scarce date in all grades which is comparable to the 1855-O and 1856-O eagles in terms of its overall and high grade rarity. These issues are all nearly impossible to locate in grades higher than AU55.
This is a visually pleasing example with much cleaner surfaces than normal for the date. Both the obverse and reverse are lustrous and show pale green-gold hues. With the exception of the radial lines in the stars, the strike is very bold for the issue.
Two NGC AU55 1852-O eagles have sold at auction since the end of 2011 and the most recent APR is $5,405 set by Heritage 12/15: 3377.
Unless you are extremely patient, you likely will not locate a finer 1852-O eagle than this.
