PCGS AU58 1880-CC HALF EAGLE
The 1880-CC is, along with the 1882-CC, the most available pre-1890-CC half eagle in higher grades. Around 9 to 11 exist in Uncirculated, and when available, they sell for around 4x the price of a nice AU58.
This frosty yellow-gold slider shows a few light lines across the obverse (NOT from cleaning) but it has nearly full luster. The strike is excellent and the superior eye appeal makes it an excellent candidate for inclusion in a seven mint type set of Liberty Head half eagles.
Two PCGS AU58s have sold since 2018, and they brought $8,400 (11/2022) and $7,500 (3/2021).
